In 2017, Matthew produced a series of monochrome illustrations and photography that focused on exoskeletons; from insects to crustaceans. A selection of the pieces appeared in that year's West Bristol Arts Trail.
Matthew's first solo show, in 2016, he focused on his two main passions of Bristol and the natural world. "A Bristol Safari" was a selection of paintings and photographs of subjects found within a mile's radius of his house.
In 2015, Matthew first took part in the West Bristol Arts Trail, showcasing his paintings of birds native to the United Kingdom. Using acrylics, tissue paper, inks and found materials to mimic the textures and vivid colours of the plumage.
